Title: Prevention Specialist- (2) - Part-time openings

General Duties:

All duties are performed under the supervision of the Prevention Program Manager:

 Plan and provide evidence based prevention programs for youth, K-12th, in the schools or in other community settings.

o Topics include but not limited to alcohol and other drugs use/abuse/addiction, life skills and other topics as it relates to the promotion of health and wellness for youth.

 Coordinate with school administration to identify, plan as well as develop, and provide education and awareness prevention services in schools for students, staff, and parents. These may include presentations, newsletters, resource table at school open houses, etc.

 Provide assistance and consultation regarding substance abuse related issues to school personnel and administrators as appropriate including individual meetings, departmental meetings, and in services as well as trainings.

 To provide problem identification & referral with identified at risk students and/or their parents/guardians.

 Participate in the development and implementation of school and community activities that enhance youth awareness of living a drug free/healthy lifestyle and provides opportunities for positive behavior support as a means of reducing risk taking behaviors and reinforcing protective factors.

o This may include serving in an advisor role or supportive role to peer prevention groups.

 Provide programming in the community to increase awareness and knowledge of substance use/abuse and behavioral health and the impact on individuals, families and communication as well as provide information about prevention services and available treatment resources in the community.

o This may include participation in county wide coalitions, community groups, etc.

 Facilitate education/early intervention groups for at risk youth.

 Documentation and reports are complete and timely

 Participate in COMPASS agency wide, departmental, supervision meetings.

Qualifications:

Education: Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in social work or health and human services or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education, Social Work, and/or counseling. Certified as Prevention Specialist in Ohio, Prevention Consultant, or Prevention Specialist Registered Applicant; preferred or eligible to apply for.

Experience: Knowledge of prevention strategies that aim at reducing risk factors related to mental, emotional, and behavioral health disorders and promote protective factors. Experience in facilitating group activities/presentations. Experience in working with both youth and adult populations. Experience in public speaking and computer skills.

Miscellaneous requirements: Criminal background check; pre-employment drug screen; clear driving record; TB test; First Aid/CPR.

Personal: Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with community representatives. Effective communication and presentation skills. Willing to work flexible schedules that may include evenings and/or weekends.

Physical Demands of job: Normal activity.
