Central Ohio Counseling Association, a chapter of the Ohio Counseling Association, will be hosting a 3 hour ethics training Friday March 6th at the Main branch of the Columbus Library, Meeting Room 2B, with virtual attendance also an option. The training will run from 9:30 am to 12:45 pm with a 15 min break.
The course is designed to help you avoid problems in the nine main areas that Glenn Karr has found that increase the risk to mental health therapists for licensing board and lawsuit complaints. It is essentially a risk management workshop with a strong emphasis on ethical considerations.
You will learn how to recognize the top nine problem areas, which include dealing with high conflict divorce issues, determining when a person is or is not actually a client, properly handling records issues, responding to subpoenas, avoiding multiple and problem relationships, dealing with duty to report and protect issues, and complying with HIPAA laws and rules.
Glenn Karr is an attorney in private practice who handles insurance, general business and employment matters for clients, including therapists in solo practice and groups. He frequently deals with questions involving professional licensing board issues and defends therapists when complaints are made against them to their licensing boards. Glenn has been a lawyer for fifty years.
The training is $40 for COCA/OCA members and $60 for non-members. Registration link is: https://central-ohio-counseling-association.ce-go.com/9-major-practice-problem-areas-facing-mental-health-therapists
