How Do We Tell The Kids: Talking About Difficult Topics with Children

Event Description: Children are often shielded from difficult conversations and topics. Difficult topics children may encounter include: distressing news headlines and grief and loss. However, children can handle difficult conversations when given scaffolding, care, and support. In fact, providing opportunities for children to ask questions and to engage provides opportunities for children to develop resiliency. Thus, this presentation will equip participants with practical tools, insights, and guidance on how to support and guide children through difficult conversations.

Objectives:

1. Identify barriers and challenges in broaching difficult conversations with children
2. Integrate ways to navigate difficult conversations with children
3. Provide strategies, and specific interventions to use when providing
4. support for kids in diverse settings.
