Session Description: Client/Student non-suicidal self-injury is a common presenting issue that counselors are often uncomfortable navigating. Self-injury invites multiple risk-related issues, and counselors can benefit from learning more about how to manage self-injury. This presentation will focus on important information that counselors need to know when working with those who self-injure. An emphasis will be placed on risk-assessment, ethics, and legal considerations.


Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about self-injury and its functions and associated risks
  • Learn about legal and ethical issues associated with counseling clients/students who self-injure
  • Learn risk assessment considerations to facilitate ethical counseling practice
