Program Description:

Neurodiversity affirms cognitive diversity, opposes the view that there is one “normal” type of cognitive functioning, and reduces stigma for folx who identify as neurodiverse. Nevertheless, there has been a lack of research on the intersection of neurodiversity and trauma-informed care. Unfortunately, neurodiverse individuals encounter complex trauma due to ableism, stigma, and barriers in accessing mental health care. Nevertheless, mental health support has not adequately addressed how neurodiverse individuals may experience complex trauma and research has been limited on best practices for integrating trauma informed care with neurodiverse individuals. neurodiversity. As a result, this training seeks to equip those who attend with skills and knowledge on neurodiversity, complex trauma, and how to adopt both a trauma-informed and neuro-affirming in diverse clinical practices.

Objectives:

1. Develop an understanding of neurodiversity 

2. Describe how neurodiverse individuals experience complex trauma 

3. Identify how to integrate neuro-affirming care into clinical practice

Biography
Kailey is a licensed professional counselor, nationally certified counselor, and thanatologist! Kailey specializes in grief counseling and grief education and owns her own private practice and is currently pursuing her PhD in counselor education and supervision.
