Resiliency and Grief: An Antidote to Disenfranchised Grief

Presented by: Kailey Bradley, LPCC-S

Program Description:

The necessity for counselors to gain competency in companioning grieving clients has increased. This need has been strongly emphasized during the COVID-19 pandemic as a gap which needs to be addressed by the counseling profession. This presentation will seek to provide counselors with definitions and examples of disenfranchised grief. Counselors in attendance will develop an understanding of disenfranchised grief and how resiliency fostered in an empathic therapeutic environment can mitigate the adverse impact of disenfranchised grief. Lastly, specific interventions will be utilized throughout the presentation to equip participants will skills they can use in clinical work.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be provided with definitions of disenfranchised grief
  2. Participants will gain interventions to work with those experiencing disenfranchised grief
  3. Participants will leave with ways to cultivate resiliency within their clients who are grieving
