    Description   The Social Worker/Guidance Program Coordinator will assist the Principal, Assistant Principals, and Faculty and Staff with students who have been identified as needing additional support in order to facilitate academic and overall school success.

    Overall Responsibilities:

    St. Xavier High School is seeking someone to fill a dual role within two departments:  Student Support Services and School Counseling.  The successful candidate will have a commitment to Catholic education and willingness to work with a talented and motivated student population. The candidate will have the ability to communicate and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and parents.

    Within the Student Support Services Department, the candidate will fulfill a social worker type role. Working as part of the Learning Center staff, the candidate will be focusing on the needs of our nontraditional students and their families. Within the School Counseling Department, the candidate will be working with the Department Chair to help coordinate and run a variety of counseling/support groups.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    The following duties are typical for this job. These are not to be seen as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

    Responsibilities for the Learning Center:

    • Assist with the transition of non-traditional students and their families from grade school through all four years at St. Xavier and sometimes beyond.
    • Ensure that basic needs of students are being met including, but not limited to, sufficient food, appropriate clothing, transportation, social, psychological and/or academic supports.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between St. Xavier High School and Boys Hope which includes monitoring Boys Hope students, attending monthly meetings, and communicating with all involved parties.
    • Coordinate and facilitate the college mentoring program for Juniors and Seniors in the Retention Program (typically first generation college bound students).

    Responsibilities for School Counseling:

    • Develop and coordinate counseling support groups on a variety of issues including, but not limited to, bereavement, social skills, study skills, transitioning to St. Xavier, stress management.
    • Work with the department head to help initiate and coordinate a counselor intern program by working with local university programs.
    • Coordinate parent/student mental health events.

    Job Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree required/Master’s Degree recommended
    • Social work degree/licensure and/or school counseling degree/licensure with appropriate experience
    • Experience working with counseling groups
    • Experience working with non-traditional, first generation college bound students
    • Strong organizational skills and record keeping
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong ability to gather, analyze, and interpret student data to make sound educational decisions
    • Ability to effectively communicate with parents and staff
    • Maintain appropriate confidentiality about students, school, and staff
