Program Description:

This webinar explores culturally responsive approaches and strategies to support clients suffering from substance use disorders. Culture shapes how individuals experience and understand substance use disorders, and supervisors play a critical role in guiding counselors who support individual, family, and community recovery efforts. Participants will learn the importance of cultural factors in case conceptualization and will recognize and mitigate personal and systemic biases that affect positive outcomes for clients from diverse backgrounds.

Objectives:

  1. Explain how cultural identity, values, and community context influence the experience, treatment, and recovery process of individuals with substance use disorders.

  2. Demonstrate knowledge of culturally responsive supervision models that enhance the effectiveness of counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists working with diverse populations.

  3. Recognize and assess the impact of implicit bias and systemic inequities in clinical
supervision and their influence on treatment planning and outcomes.

  4. Apply culturally informed supervision strategies that promote ethical practice, cultural humility, and improved client engagement across diverse cultural backgrounds.
