Participants will explore how advocating for themselves, their clients, and the counseling profession can build confidence and strengthen the counseling profession at-large. An emphasis is placed on the ACA Advocacy Competencies and Code of Ethics. This workshop will highlight strategies for advocacy within supervisory relationships, addressing employee rights, and promoting best practice ethical standards. A brief review of the OCA Government Relations Committee, Legislative Advocacy Day, and local and state-level action steps will be provided. Emphasis will be placed on how effective advocacy can directly impact the quality of care provided to clients, while empowering counselors to navigate challenges and contribute to the growth of the mental health field.
