Program Description: 

Counselor educators encourage self-care in counselors-in-training through discussing circumstances related to vicarious trauma and impairment. Vicarious resilience is an alternative that promotes the likelihood of counselors-in-training being able to grow alongside clients impacted by trauma as noted by multiple studies in the mental health field (Hernandez-Wolfe, 2018). This webinar will provide an alternative understanding of counselors’ work in sessions with clients through a transformative lens versus a deficit.

Learning Objectives:

1) Attendees will gain an understanding of vicarious resilience

2) Attendees will be able to distinguish among varied related terms that are  subject to overlap (e.g., vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, etc)
