This interactive training explores how to quickly assess the needs of a caller in crisis and provide effective intervention. This training will provide attendees with best practice guidelines for assessing safety, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques.

Objectives

      1. Identify best practice tools for assessing risk with crisis callers.
      2. Define and identify the signs of mental health crisis.
      3. Apply knowledge of community resources to effectively respond to callers’ needs for mental health services.

Supervisor, Right Response Unit

Sally Smith, LISW-S received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from The Defiance College, and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University. She is currently a Supervisor with the Right Response Unit, which is part of the City of Columbus’s Alternative Response plan for public safety. She leads a team of clinicians that are embedded in the city’s 911 call center, where they work with caller’s that are experiencing a mental health crisis, to help them resolve the crisis and get them the right response. Prior to her work with the Right Response Unit, Sally worked for 25 years in the Adult Protective Services field, both in Licking and Franklin County. She is also a part-time therapist with Chrysalis Health Care, where she uses a number of therapeutic modalities including but not limited to Cognitive Behavior Therapy, DBT and Motivational Interviewing.

The links come from our Qualtrics survey software, so please be sure to check your spam folder. Evaluations must be completed to receive CE credits. Certificates will be emailed to you within 30 days of the training date.
