Trauma & Mood in the Perinatal Period:

I do not have control. I am not enough. My body was not enough. I (or my baby) am going to die. Pregnancy, birth and postpartum periods are ripe periods for traumatic experiences. In this workshop, participants will explore the elements of the perinatal and fertility periods that contribute to traumatic and experiences and will learn to look beyond the life-and-death to more subtle elements of the experience that can ultimately contribute to postpartum anxiety and depression.

Embodied Mindfulness and Yoga Therapy in the Counseling Room:

Ever prescribe yoga to a client, understanding that it’s a “relaxing and meditative practice,” but not really understanding how the practice works or if the person who teaches them can provide that benefit? Ever wonder exactly how to leverage that practice toward the client’s needs? Or even bring the therapeutic practices more actively into your counseling room? Trauma therapists understand the loss of ability to remain present and the chasm between cognitive mind and animal body that often develops in our clients.  States of overwhelm can be tamed through successful use of yoga & mindfulness techniques that engage body awareness rather than working exclusively through cognitive, top-down approaches. Attendees will leave this workshop with an overview of the elements of yoga that have been found to be therapeutic and with the ability to set up embodiment experiments within the counseling space with this cursory understanding. They will also learn about the growing practice use of yoga therapeutics in the counseling room.

Renee teaches Mindful Monday: Yoga for Emotional Health, an online yoga class with zero touch, full trauma-informed practice, from the comfort of the client’s home. The class incorporates in a concentrated way the therapeutic elements of yoga, geared toward trauma, anxiety, and depression recovery. The class can be found at www.spiritedgrowth.com.

Renee also will be launching new groups in the fall, including her Emotional Recovery for Challenging Pregnancies, Births, and Postpaartum Periods and her signature mindfulness course: Zapped to Zen 101. These are also available through her website.
