I am in a whirlwind of emotions in light of the events that have taken place in that last few weeks, in regard to the death of George Floyd. I am currently processing my own feeling while concurring trying to assist others. I truly agree with your statement Martina, it is so important that we set aside our stereotypes and judgments and embrace each other. This is truly the time to create a community of care. It is an isomorphic process that as we assist each other, we will be better for our clients, our teams, our students, our supervisee and our mentees.
I also struggle with how we can bring our voices to this divisive time. There is a need for empathy and systemic healing. As a black woman, I cry for my race, understand he pain, and the struggle to be heard. This is truly an emotionally deep wound that words cannot fully expressed in the moment.
I am hopeful that as helpers, we will create safe spaces for each other to cry, share, and create solutions for our profession as we continue to care for ourselves and others.
